Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni is a perennial plant used for extraction of staviosides and rebaudiosides as a natural sweet taste compounds that replace sugars (mainly sucrose). This class of compounds are ent-kaurane diterpene glycoside and as such are almost devoid of calories. Due to the botanical background of the plant (Compositae family), the plant is highly heterozygote and self-incompatible. Clonal propagation is highly desirable, especially for growers aiming to use the sweeteners in industrial foods. Rahan Meristem is engaged in developing technologies for efficient production of high quality germplasm to growers.
