Persimmon trees (Diospyros kako L) can be grafted on different types of rootstock. There are difficulties in producing the majority of the most popular rootstock from rooted stem cuttings. The preferred rootstocks for use for persimmon trees are kaki and Virginia. We at Rahan Meristem recently succeeded in developing an effective protocol for producing persimmon tree rootstock that are identical to the original in a laboratory. This succeed resulted in a large-scale project involving the selection of rootstock with a diversity of select properties, particularly tolerance in saline and chalky soil.
